No Regrets Renovating - The Technology Changing The Way We Build Our Homes

by Rosie McKay

The future is here! Find out how virtual reality technology is bringing the "try before you buy" concept into our homes...

Now let me start by saying, I love the home we built almost three years ago now, but now let me also be honest - there are things I would change! As anyone who has built or renovated can attest, sometimes what you imagine a room to look like isn't always how it looks when it's finished. But it's done and you live with it until you can find the heart to spend even more of your hard earned cash to change it.

Now imagine if you could design your dream space and experience how it looks and feels before actually committing? Enter The Blue Space a service that uses Virtual Reality technology to allow its customers to design the space to replicate their own kitchen or bathroom, then see what an almost endless range of options looks like - even down to real lighting and reflections, from the exact position of the sun as it moves through the day, to the accurate ambience of light fixtures!

During your free consultation The Blue Space consultants help you design your  space in 3D, with the chance to experience it in V.R. where you can ensure you are completely happy with how it all looks, or make any changes before you buy everything you see as a complete package and have it delivered to your door.

'Seeing the end result before it is built takes away a customers anxiety about making the wrong choice in colours, fittings and layouts,' says The Blue Space managing director, Josh Mammoliti. 'Being able to visualise your space lets customers experiment and see what 'outside of the box' finishes look like before taking on the expense of purchasing and installing.'

So how exactly does this V.R thing work? Last week I was lucky enough to be one of the first to test out The Blue Space and was blown away by the possibilities, so let me tell you - and show you a few snaps of me in action too!

First you put on a big pair googles and hold two black remote controls in your hand - these not only give you a centre of balance, but they also allow you to control and change what you see in your V.R world. For instance, using the buttons on your controls you can change colour schemes, see what different types of fixtures, i.e. baths and toilets look like in your space. You can even walk into the shower and step into the bath too. (Note to you: you can just walk through it without actually having to hitch your leg up and over like me!) The best bit? V.R allows you to get as creative as you want with the options without fear that you will be stuck with something you hate! Instead of being forced to stay safe in your choices, seeing your "out there" decorating idea in V.R can make or break your final decision - and avoid heartbreak in return!

Indeed, the future of "no regrets renovating" is bright thanks to the Blue Space.
