The Stylist Edit: Build Your New Year Wardrobe

by Rosie McKay

To inspire your new year wardrobe I've partnered with NEXT to bring you my Top 5 trends. Looking good on a budget has never been easier...

If shopping were and Olympic sport, my husband would tell you I would be a gold medallist! At this time of year, I love to hit the inter webs and the shops to spruce up my new year wardrobe. While a believe a good wardrobe is built on a foundation of classic pieces that don't date easily, I also think it's important to add some personality with affordable trend-driven pieces

UK brand NEXT is one of my fave online retailers because they offer great fits, understand trends and best of all are affordable!
To inspire you to update your own new year look, I have done an edit of the NEXT collection to bring you my TOP 5 trends to try now.

Hope you love!

1. Floral Prints

I like to think of florals as a bit of a chameleon print! Pending on how you style your look, they can be girlie, boho and even edgy. Staying true to my own style, I decided to belt this pretty knitted floral dress and wear with a sleek ankle boot and a fedora to add a bit of cool-factor.

2. Sequins

There should always be room for a little bit of sparkle in your wardrobe. A sequinned shift dress is always a great choice for a fun night out with the girls or a special occasion like an engagement or wedding. If you do like to experiment with fashion, you can also take your sequins to the street by dressing down with a patched denim / bomber jacket and white sneakers.

3. Velvet

Velvet his a huge trend now and for the coming season. From skirts to dresses, suits and shoes you will find a version in this sumptuous 70s-inspired fabric. Introduce a touch into your wardrobe by adding a velvet version of a staple item like a black skirt. To keep the look balanced and modernteam with sheer fabrics and more casual items like a slogan tee and lace-up flats or loafers.

4. Patched Denim

Ever since Gucci debuted patched denim on the runway last season, it's been a must-have look to try. These jeans look equally as cool dressed up with a sequin tee and heels as they would with a simple white tank and slides. A really easy way to take your weekend style up a notch!

5. Little Black Dress

If there is one thing every girl should own it's a Little Black Dress! Interesting textures like fringing and beading and fresh silhouettes elevate this wardrobe classic.
