Lebanese Kofta with Spicy Tomato Sauce

Kofta meatballs are a Lebanese tradition. They’re made from ground meat and are very simple to prepare. Serve wrapped in pita bread with a drizzle of tahini sauce, or in a burger bun.

Method

  • Step 1. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients thoroughly.

  • Step 2. Shape the mixture into 10 equal-sized balls, then roll each ball into an oval pattie.

  • Step 3. In a nonstick skillet, heat the olive oil over medium high heat and brown the patties.

  • Step 4. For the Spicy Tomato Sauce: In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  • Step 5. Add the garlic and sauté for one minute.

  • Step 6. Add the cumin, paprika, jalapeños, peppers, and tomatoes, then bring to a boil.

  • Step 7. Reduce heat and simmer for five minutes.

  • Step 8. Pour the lemon juice and vinegar, then remove from heat.

  • Step 9. Pour the tomato sauce over the patties. Serve hot!
