Try These Celebrity-Inspired Braid Hairstyles

by Abegail Armateo

Celebrity hair stylist Lizzie Liros shows us how to recreate the same braids worn by Kim Kardashian and other Hollywood A-listers at home...

Braids are big news... Everyone from Kim Kardashian to Rita Ora has been rocking them. We asked Philips HairCare Ambassador, Lizzie Liros -  who's worked with high profile figures such as John Travolta, Kylie Minogue, and fashion brands including Alex Perry and Carla Zampatti -  to tell us how to recreate these three celeb-adored braided do's at home.

Prepare clean, freshly blow-waved hair by spraying with a medium hold hair spray.

Step 1: Starting at nape section hair in 1-inch sections, curling all hair with a conical wand (Curls do not have to be perfect, you are just creating movement and texture for the plaits).

Step 2: Allow to cool for 10 minutes before running fingers gently through hair to loosen the curl.

Step 3: With a wide tooth comb brush hair into a high pony tail at the temple area.

Step 4: Divide the hair into 3 panels & plait each panel.

Step 5: Gently stretch each plait to loosen and widen.

Step 6: Position each plait as desired across the top of the hair and face, creating all your fullness on the crown and front of the head. Secure in place with bobby pins.

TIP: Do not apply any finishing product or hair spray to this style.

Step 2: Taking the hair in small sections curl all the hair with a medium curling iron or straightener like the Philips Moisture Protect Straightener.

Step 4: Create a side part and taking a 3.5 inch section of hair from the front center of the head and tightly fishtail braid on the opposite side to your part, taking the braid 5cm away from the tips of the hair.

Step 1: Divide the hair have section away to braid into two smaller equal-sized halves.

Step 2: Take a thin section of hair from the outside of the left section.

Step 3: Pull this piece across the top of the left section over to the right section. Be careful not to twist the hair as you bring it across.

Step 4: Then do the same on the right side, pulling the thin section of hair across the top of the right half section and over to the left half section.

Step 5: Repeat this technique for the length of the braid.

Step 1: Create a straight centre part from the front of the crown to the back lower nape, using a comb to create 2 neat equal sections.

Step 2: Tie one side of the sectioned hair off to the side and out of the way.

Step 3: On the opposite side take a small section of hair to begin your inverted fishtail braid.

Step 4: Divide the section into 3 equal sub sections and begin your braid by crossing the two outside sections under the middle section. After you make your first couple of weaves you can begin to add hair to the outside sections and continue to braid.

Step 5: Follow this technique and braid all the way down to the tips of the hair, then tie with elastic.

Step 6: Repeat the same steps on the other side to complete this on trend look.
